Friday Bulletin
7th September 2007

An explanation for parents new to the School! We send out a Friday Bulletin every week to remind you of things happening at School the following week. The Bulletin is also posted on our website at www.bawburghschool.co.uk. The slip at the bottom needs to be signed and returned to your child’s class teacher on the following Monday morning. PLEASE NOTE THAT IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT YOU READ THE FRIDAY BULLETIN. If your child has been ill or does not bring it home, it is important to ask the Office for a copy. You may miss out on valuable information otherwise!

Creative Curriculum
This year we are developing a more creative curriculum. Lessons will flow more naturally into each other on a specific topic and children will see a purpose for their learning. This half term the whole school is investigating ‘COMMUNICATION’ in its broadest sense. At the end of this half term classes will share their work with each other. We will have learnt about the Post; how blind & deaf people communicate with each other; the Theatre; Telephones; Morse Code; Canals and much, much more!

S.E.A.L.
Part of our creative curriculum will incorporate our Social and Emotional. Aspects of Learning or S.E.A.L. This half term the School is looking at ‘CHANGES’ and we would like you to help your child put this into their home context. Therefore, every week, attached to the Friday Bulletin will be a Child/Home sheet for you to discuss with your child. There is no need to return this to School, but you could make it into a Family Folder and build it up over the year. Some sheets are for your child and the immediate family and some will involve grandparents. The wider the range of people involved in discussing the sheet the better your child will understand the topic!

Intervention groups
Children who are underachieving in Maths or English and need a boost in a small group will again be given additional help. Intervention groups will be starting next week. An explanatory letter will be sent out to you explaining the help being given and how you can help your child at home.

Music Club
Music Club will commence next week, but please note that due to changes in Mrs Stanners’ timetable, the club will now be on a Thursday after school until 4p.m. All children from Year 2 upwards welcome. There is no charge for this club.

Netball Club
An after School Netball Club is available for children in Year 3 and upwards starting next week. Details were sent out by Miss Cooke yesterday. There is no charge for this club.

After School Football
Premier Sport will be running a 10 week Football Club after School on Fridays commencing 21st September. Details to follow next week.

Keyboard Lessons
Keyboard lessons for children in Year 3 and upwards are available commencing on Monday, 10th September. We are pleased to welcome Mrs Clarke as our new keyboard teacher. Please see the attached letter for further details.

Girls’ toilets
Since the hall has been built we have experienced intermittently a very bad build up of gases in the girls’ toilets. We have had numerous builders out to locate the cause, but despite removing the wall and ceiling panels, inspecting the fan in the roof void, checking for stagnant water through all toilets and flushing the drains, we are no further forward! If you notice the smell over the next month, please sign and date the sheet on the table in the foyer. Only one signature needed at a time. We hope to see how often the smell occurs and to establish if there is a pattern. In the meantime, I apologise if your child is upset by the smell, but we are trying to find the cause!

Termly contributions
A reminder that your voluntary contribution of £4.50 can be sent to the office. New parents please see attached letter.

Tesco Vouchers
Tesco begin their Sport for Schools Scheme on Monday, 10th September. Once again we have signed up to take part in this year’s campaign, and would be very grateful if you could send your vouchers in to School.

School Kitchen
Menu Change
Please note that on Wednesday, 12th September, the hot lunch option has been changed to Roast Pork.
New legislation brought into effect from 1st September means that we cannot offer the children diluted squash with their meal. We will provide water or fruit juice at mealtimes.
New legislation also means that the Thursday Tuck Shop can only sell “bread based products”. From next week tuck will have to be pre-ordered on the school meals’ order form on Mondays and sent in with payment at 25p per item. Tuck next Thursday will be slices of pizza. This will help us enormously with our costs by reducing waste.

Photo Consent, Transport & Change of Details Forms
It is very important that the School has an up to date record of emergency telephone numbers. Please make sure that the attached Family Update Form is checked and returned to School, together with your signed Photography Consent Form and Transport Form.

Comets
Parents of our new Comets are invited to a meeting with Mrs Beverley in the School Hall on Wednesday, 12th September at 9a.m.

Absences
It is illegal to take your children out of school at any time, unless for medical reasons. It is extremely upsetting for the children on their return, as they have to re-make friendship groups. They are also disadvantaged in the class room as they miss so much of the teaching which provides the foundation for full understanding of a topic.

E-mail Friday Bulletin
Approximately half of all our parents have signed up to receive the Friday Bulletin by e-mail. We really need your help in reducing our costs further and would be very grateful if you would consider receiving an e-mailed version. Please complete your e-mail address below. If you do decide to receive your Bulletin via e-mail, you will still need to sign the confirmation slip and return it to School.
